The Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market is a unique event for the Syracuse area. Crafters of the new generation are emerging to provide funky, alternative and contemporary handmade artworks and our mission is to create an annual marketplace where a diverse group of local artists and designers have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work.
The Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market is the place to buy, experience, share, and re-imagine all things locally handmade while enjoying local music performances and yummy food provided by a local venues!
The 2nd annual market will be on Saturday, October 23rd, 10am – 6pm, at the Case Supply Warehouse at 112 Wyoming St in Syracuse, NY.
Event Organizers:
Briana Kohlbrenner
Briana has been living in Syracuse, NY since 2003 and enjoys its easy-going affordable life-style. In 2009, Briana began devoting her energy creating opportunities to expose local indie artists through inventive environments such as her shop, Craft Chemistry (located at 745 N. Salina St, Syracuse, NY, 13208) and this market. Recently Briana began co-chairing 40 Below’s Public Arts Task Force to further foster artistic collaboration and create public art.
Briana just started a new line of goods called Pochenka (website coming soon) which has a collection of nature inspired ladies & baby apparel and up-cycled home goods. Last year she started a collection of robot apparel called Red Heart Robot.
Vanessa Rose
Upon moving back to Syracuse I was excited to see a movement toward developing and promoting the urban art scene here in town. There are many people active in the community, encouraging and producing contemporary art and design. It is my desire to be a part of this movement, encouraging a more vibrant and dynamic city in which we live and work. My involvement with the Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market continues to be founded in the desire to support local consumerism and foster community building around the arts.
I carry these same principals with me as co-chair of 40 Below’s Public Arts Task Force and community activist. In my free time I am also a school teacher and mom to three delicious kiddos.
Stasya Panova
Stasya Panova moved to Syracuse, NY in 2005 to receive her BFA in painting from Syracuse University. During her studies, Stasya contributed to various community art projects and spent her summers teaching, traveling and mural-making. After graduating, she worked with local youth at the Northside Collaboratory installing public art pieces in vacant spaces. She then took a position with the Collaboratory as the AmeriCorps VISTA Beautification Coordinator.
Stasya is passionate about teaching and art in all its forms. She is also very excited to take part in organizing the Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market.
Courtney Rile
I love the Salt City Urban Art & Craft market! …What an awesome event to have in Syracuse! Last year I was a fan, but this year I’m happy to get to play too. I’m looking forward to some special ideas we have planned for this year’s event!
Bio: Courtney Rile (that’s me) has been working to improve the Syracuse art scene since shortly after arriving from the Philadelphia area in 2004. After earning a degree in Video Art, Rile worked with Light Work, Spark and ThINC’s Company Gallery to archive, organize and curate exhibitions. She then spent 3 years working at Delavan Art Gallery where she helped to launch Th3, The Third Thursday. In 2008, she co-founded “Contemporary Gallery,” a temporary contemporary art gallery on Harrison Street in Syracuse, NY. This was followed by the launch of “Price Check,” a curatorial research project and investigation into the price of art across New York State. In December, Rile co-founded Daylight Blue Media, which recently premiered it’s first feature length documentary.
